The Puttery is a brand new concept redefining the mini-golf experience. It offers unique, quirky, and irreverent courses for adults only paired with food and beverage for an unforgettable night out. My work on this project involved detailing how golfers move through the experience, how scores are kept and shown digitally, and how all the components work together to create a seamless experience.
This concept was brand new, so there was no existing system to use as a template. The entire end to end user interaction needed to be architected from the ground up. The service blueprint served to describe in detail the entire process and unite all parties around the big picture of what we were creating together. From creating an online reservation, to arrival, play, and check out, each step in the golfer’s journey was laid out in this service blueprint.
We created digital scorecards to follow the player’s group from start to finish. I created a set of wireframes to show how the system responds at different states, including states outside the “happy path” such as multiple balls being detected at once, or the ball going off the course. The visual hierarchy in these wireframes took into account the physical aspects of the space and the understanding of where the player would be standing when they are waiting their turn, putting, or ending their turn. Moments of celebration were also considered. This smart ball tracking system relied on lidar technology that was considered early in the project but later moved to a roadmap feature due to cost considerations.
Each play area has a unique, fun, and playful theme. Thematic designs were applied to each scoreboard, creating a sense of immersion and further enhancing the experience for the putter.
