The Puttery is a brand new concept: Sophisticated mini-golf for adults only. This concept will feature indoor courses with ball-tracking and a player management system similar to bowling scoreboards. I created a complete set of UX documentation that describe how the user moves through the experience, and how all the components work together.
This concept is brand new, so there is no existing system to use as a template. The entire user interaction needed to be architected from the ground up. The service blueprint served that purpose well, and helped all parties see the big picture of what we were creating together.
Each hole in the course has its own digital scorecard. That means the system needs to follow the player’s group from start to finish. I created a set of wireframes to show how the system responds at different states, including states outside the “happy path” such as multiple balls being detected at once, or the ball going off the course. The visual hierarchy in these wireframes took into account the physical aspects of the space and the understanding of where the player would be standing when they are waiting their turn, putting, or ending their turn.
When the player checks in to a course, they are assigned a ball to their name in the system. This process needed to be easy and straightforward, especially since this will be many people’s first time playing this type of mini golf.
Each play area has a unique, fun, and playful theme. Thematic designs were applied to each scoreboard, creating a sense of immersion and further enhancing the experience for the putter.
